A wonderful and unique experience is to be had at the newly opened Occidental Grand Playa Turquesa. The hotel feels perfectly close to nature being set amongst tropical vegetation with its four pools cascading into one another like small waterfalls. This ecological hotel even has room blocks that stand on small stilts.
The hotel will suit both couples and families with plenty of activities to keep everyone happy. There's even a separate children's area for the little ones to play in.
Currently there is an ongoing project to clean the local beach, what is emerging is a white sand and shingle shoreline.

We were in Holguin from Dec.31/07 to Jan.7/08. The weather was not that good, however, it is their winter at that time. Almost everyone at the resort got hit with stomach problems. There was travelers diarhea and some people were vomiting. It happened to people who were not drinking so you can't blame it on the alcohol! There is no drug store so take lots of Immodium with you! The staff were very friendly and the room was kept very clean. The pools are not heated and are very cold, especially if the sun is not out. Tipping constantly seems to be commonplace. Make sure you have coin for the people working in the airport bathrooms. They seem to be the most desperate. Make sure your creditcard is accepted in Cuba before you go. Some people had problems getting cash advances.

take into account cuba is quite new to tourism the hotel staff could not do more to try and please you,but there were no sun shades around the seven cascading swimming pools(but i beleive thats changed now).beach location great, food dont expect anything to fancy but you will survive.drawbacks were they fumigate perimeter of hotel once or twice a day which can be abit chokey especially if your having your evening meal at the time they do it to get rid of mossies,so i suppose its for our benefit but probably not good if you have astmha but im still alive. second drawback is waterfalls coming down, means lots of steps going up,so if your pins are not to good this hotel is not for you, most rooms are at low level so it means you have to come up alot of garden steps for your meals and bars etc,but overall not a bad hotel and we had agreat holiday there ive been to alot worse.go with an open mind it is afterall still a communist country.
