Built as Havana's wealthier inhabitants migrated out from the expanding city centre in the late 1950s, the tree-lined avenue of La Quinta Avenida is today home to a host of diplomatic centres as well as Havana's residents, with plenty of reminders of its former grandeur to be seen. Currently the only hotel along this famous avenue, the Occidental Miramar combines a fascinating location with high quality accommodation, making this a great place from which to discover Cuba.
Guests at the hotel benefit from being well looked after; there is a spacious free-form pool and several restaurants to choose from. Havana's Old Colonial Quarter is nearby, with its ramshackle elegance, and the coastline is within reach of the hotel, with views of the ocean from the accommodation.

We went to the Tropicana the first night, but the entertainment in the hotel is exceptional. The food is quite pedestrian, but there is a lot of it and the buffet had some really good fish and beef.
