The seductive Clubhotel Riu Merengue lies just footsteps away from a relaxing ribbon of silky-soft ivory sands, ensuring you'll get straight into the swing of laid-back Carribean living. The gentle pace of life means days drift by with a blissful disregard for the ticking clock, perfect if you want to escape the stresses of work. Wake up to glittering sunshine streaming through your window, instead of the ugly concrete-coloured skies you're used to. Then slip on your swimsuit, slap on the suntan lotion and take your pick of two beautiful beaches.
The gorgeous pool with swishing palms and big tropical palms also provides a dreamy, peaceful setting to while away the hours. Recline on a sunlounger beneath a thatched parasol and linger over the pages of a good book safe in the knowledge that whenever you fancy you're just seconds away from a refreshing dip in the pool. There's so much to do here, it'll be amazing if you manage to fit it all in, from destressing in the sublime spa to holding on for dear life on a scream-if-you-want-to-go-faster banana boat ride. Why not battle it out on the tennis courts, get fit with an aerobics class, or have a go at windsurfing, kayaking, sailing and scuba diving. See? We mean it when we say there's never a dull moment at the Clubhotel Riu Merengue. The hotel is part of the RIU Resort, a trio of hotels nestled between the mountains and the sea, so just think of the choice open to you in this blissful haven. When you fancy a spot of retail therapy, head on down to the colourful Carribean Street - a great shopping strip shared by all the hotels - where you can buy anything from cutting edge clothes to one-off pieces of jewellery, as well as souvenirs for all the people back home.
When it comes to food, your hotel's main restaurant offers an indulgent buffet with international flavours from all over the world. In addition, there's a pool restaurant which transforms into a speciality restaurant when the evening rolls in. Remember to book this one in advance though. At the end of the day, take a look at the cocktail list in one of the hotel's three bars, catch a glitzy show of merengue dancing or show off your own moves in the resort's disco. After all that fun, relax in your room - a calm oasis of comfort and style.
