The Excellence Punta Cana enjoys the best of both worlds, in a great location on the beach, and with a great range of facilities. Here there are no less than seven different restaurants, a casino and a nightclub. There is a dedicated team providing an entertainment programme including activities like flower arranging and Spanish lessons during the day, and salsa music and live shows at night.
This hotel is particularly well suited to honeymooning couples who would like a hidden away picturesque location with plenty of activities. This hotel is limited to people who are aged over 18.

This is a great place if you want to relax. Getting there however will take you quite a while over some very bumpy narrow roads. We have no complaints about the staff or the environment we had a great time. Lots of relaxing by the great pool and beautiful ocean. The only thing we wish would have been better was the food. We do not consider ourselves "foodies" by any means, but don't go looking for great tastes. If you enjoy the flavor and textures of food another resort would probably be a better choice.

This year in February Excellence Punta Cana has proven its inability to provide any decent level of security and service. Everyone has really to keep an eye on personal belongings, because the personnel, including the waiters and room maids would not hesitate to steal things from the guests. In addition, the young newcomer general manager from Spain is completely lost in managing his staff.
My case was not the first when very valuable things were stolen from the guests. Last year one woman’s diamond watch was stolen, other people were complaining, this time it was my wife’s designer hand purse with phone, money inside. However, nothing was ever found, even when the managers promised to find it in few hours or days.
Additionally, complete disappointment came when we realized that not even a half of the personnel could speak English. Basically, you have to point with finger in menu items so the people can realize what specifically you want to order (unless you know Spanish).
Simply saying, do not believe the “five stars” or “luxury” which is very well advertised, be ready to stay in permanent caution and on the edge of the nervous breakdown when you are trying to explain simple things to the personnel.
Every optional service, e.g. wedding ceremony, photo session or excursion is hiding additional costs, and you have to pay almost double price in the end of the days because the so-called “managers” simply “forget” to mention about it.

Overall, we enjoyed our vacation at this resort very much... The resort is a long ride from the airport over very rough roads. (We were told the governement is working on paving roads into the area so the transfer from the hotel might be improved in the future.) Some tour providers are now offering private transfers to and from the airport. It might worthwhile to consider this option as the ride might be smoother the bumpy bus.
The resort itself is lovely - nice gardens, friendly people, and not too large. It was just a short walk from any room to the beach, retaurants ,main areas, etc. No tram rides required..hooryay!
The beach was nice to sit on - soft white sand, nice cooling breeze. But the waves in the water made it very difficult to swim unless you are a very strong swimmer. They were great for boogie boarding though. The hotel advises that you can walk about 300+ meters down the beach to a public beach for calmer waters. We did not bother.
The food was good at both the buffet and the a la cate restaurants. Our favourite was the french restaurant. Service was slow and easy and the food was indeed gourmet. The hotel does not take advance reservations for the restaurants. You just put your name on a list when you want to go in and they buz you when your table is available. Most of the restaurants had only a 10 - 20 minute wait so it wasn't a problem. We did have to wait 1 hour to get into the french resaurant (proably because of the slow ,gratious service). So I suggest that you go to that prticular restaurant early.
There is no beach snack bar. So we were having to leave the beach and go to one of the restaurants for lunch. We had asked for take out at one of the places and were told that they couldn't do that. It was not until our second last day ther that we found out that you could get take-out burgers etc. at the Lobster House. The hotel does provide an afternoon rice dish on the bach and beach-butlers bring pizza around to you on the beach in the afternoon. Beach butlers also bring you drinks on the beach and I even saw them bring one couple afternoon tea with china teapots and cups.
Also, there is no 24 hour restaurant available other than a pizza place (the pizza was only so-so). The othe roption was 24 hour room service. The menu is limited but met our needs nicely. However, if ordering affter midnight you may have to wait awhile for the food to be delivered to you. We ordered several breakfasts from room service and they were delivered promptly and warm.
The entertainment was excellent. Very professional. A different show every night. ONe was a circus type show with high wire walkers etc, and included smoke effects, a small firework display. The shows would last approx. 45 min from about 10:00pm to 10:45 following which there would be some musical performer in the main bar area. The seats in the theatre area ver very comfortable - ratan chair with cushions and little table that you could rest your drinks on. Waiters would come around to take your order for a drinks.
Our room was comfortable and clean. The maid filled oour tub with bubble bath and flower pettals on occassion. Nice toouch.
All in all, I loved this resort.

What a great holiday! We went to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and my birthday. Because of this we could book a romantic meal in one of the restaurants. We chose Chez Isabella (French) and the food and service were superb. In fact, there is a large selection of restaurants to choose from - all excellent!
Our room was very clean and spacious with a double jacuzzi (which was filled on a number of occasions by the maid with bubble bath and rose petals,) coffee facilities and a free mini-bar. We were also lucky to get a sea view.
The hotel and grounds were constantly being cleaned and maintained, and therefore the hotel always had a fresh and new feel to it.
We would recommend this hotel without hesitation!
