Gran Bahia Principe Ambar Holiday Reviews

The hotel Gran Bahia Principe Ambar is located in Playa Bavaro Higuey, Dominican Republic is just 30 minutes from Punta Cana Airport and 90 minutes from La Romana Airport.

This is a Caribbean style hotel with a hint of Colonial decoration. It is on a white sand beach which stretches for over 700meters surrounded by tropical vegetation. The resort is located next to the new Golf Club Punta Blanca and close to the Palma Real Golf Club- Cocotal. It is also just 90 minutes form the world famous Casa de Campo Golf Club.

We arrived at the hotel and was greeted in a warm and friendly way and was directed to check in and put a label with our room number on our luggage so they could deliver it for us so we didn't have to pull it. When we arrived at the room our luggage came 2mins later. The room was a good size with a huge bed,nice bathroom with a bath and shower and a good sized balcony over-looking the very well maintained gardens surrounding the rooms. The layout of the resort was perfect,the reception (which is huge), restaurant,show area and main pool were all together so you didn't have far to go for lunch etc and they had a street with bars and shops for latenight clubbing and entertainment. The daytime entertainment was fantastic,the animations team were great,there were always something to do and they tried getting everyone involved,doing water polo,aqua-aerobics etc. There were food available 24/7. There was a huge selection in the main buffet area and also had chef's on show to cook fresh meals like pasta and omelettes etc. Along the beach was the snack bar where they did burgers,hotdogs,pizza,salad etc. Aside from the main restaurants there is 4 more restaurants,maxican,italian,medertarrainian and seafood. These were available to book and did fantastic food. The evening shows were very entertaining. They did a selection of shows ranging from dancing to funny shows and getting the audience involved. Once the show had finished the entertainment team would take you up the street where they would do another show or you could go to the other bars or even the latenight disco which was very good. Overall the holiday was out of this world. We have not one bad comment about the place. Every member of staff was polite,friendly and very hard working. The best holiday i have ever had and i will go back again for definate. 2weeks is just NOT long enough. Not Adult Only  Review by Jill from Canada on December 31, 2007 for stay during December, 2007.  Overall    Service    Room Comfort    Cleanliness    Food    Value   Tour Operator/Travel Provider: Air Transat Five Star Hotel - not Adult only - not Accomodations -nice but not finished, hotel is not ready to be occupied - sliding doors don't lock, toilets not working, ceilings leaking, mold, Mini Bar - well mini it is and not restocked every day Cleaning service - maids not in until afeter 4pm usually Bar Drinks - very limited. Would only rate this as 3 1/2 star at the most. Never go back. 13-17year old staying at this resort. Dining room was opened up to babies and toddlers etc in adjoining hotels. This was only to be 18 years plus. Room towels were not usually restocked with appropriate amounts of towels. If there are ocean view rooms they are just barely viewing the ocean. This hotel is located on a huge complex with several other hotels. There were problems in adjoining hotels which resulted in teenagers residing in this Adult only resort. Adults, youth in restaurants in the evening in shorts, baseball hats etc which were clearly against the dress code for such dining. Managers/service desk people just didn't care when you complained and pretty much denied there were any young people staying at the resort. Parents of these children confirmed their ages. Very confusing transportation to and from the airport. Confusion on staff regarding where to check in. This adult only hotel located in the complex with three other hotels was only opened for three weeks. Staff were not experienced enough and it was very apparent that they became very overwhelmed as more people arrived over the Christmas Break. Bars at this hotel closed at 11pm. You needed to take a train to other hotels facilities which were not adult only to get a drink. Would not recommend this to anyone wishing to relax at an adult only hotel. Would refer this to someone who enjoys eating a wide variety of food as the cooking/preparation and display was 5 star. Very disappointing.
