Starfish Trelawny Holiday Reviews

Jamaica Holiday Reviews

The Starfish Trelawny has three miles of wonderful beach, with the turquoise waters that stretch into the horizon providing a stunning backdrop to your Jamaican getaway. This fabulous hoel lies nestled right up against the beach, which makes the perfect place to recline in the sun with a good book, soothed by the sound of the waves gently lapping the fine white sands. For those seeking an active holiday, the waterfront location provides the perfect opportunity to try a great variety of watersports, including kayaking and windsurfing, whilst on land, bouncy-boxing, sumo wrestling and wall rock climbing are just some of the great activities on offer.

Guests here can even take to the skies as they soar through the air on a trapeze. There are also four lovely swimming pools here, as well as four hot tubs, two whirlpools and a swim-up bar to make it easy to unwind. This hotel goes to great lengths to ensure that all holidaymakers enjoy their time here. The cuisine in this All Inclusive hotel is great, and allows guests to eat at any time throughout the day. Guests can also enjoy a snack at the Seashell Bar and Grill on the beach, or enjoy a sophisticated Italian meal at Giuseppi's dining room. There is also a smart Japanese restaurant to ensure that all tastes are catered for here, well worth the small surcharge. The Starfish Trelawny is ideal for guests looking for an outstanding All Inclusive hotel in a fantastic location, with amazing value for money.

    Holiday Review

The starfish is a great hotel with freindly and helpful staff but it is very isolated with not alot going on around it.The excursions are very expensive ! we found it cheaper and more enjoyable to go on trips with the locals. Jerrys bar down the road is the place to book your trips. Jerry the owner of the bar is so freindly helpful and informative he can do most of the trips at a 1/4 of the price. The hotel is really nice with a brilliant beach connecting to it. Food is spot on and the red stripe is even better. Don't be put off by the locals they are only trying to earn a few dollars for themselves and can be a good laugh to. Would go back to Jamaica but would stay in Montego Bay !!

We booked 2 weeks at the Starfish over Christmas.....mistake.... BIG mistake! The place is poorly run, run down and grossly over rated and over priced!

Initial check-in was fairly painless as there were relatively few guests who arrived at the same time we did.

We had paid extra for a cottage, and thank God we did as some of the horror stories we heard about the rooms in the main hotel building were awful.

The room was OK but I reckon the maids only worked part time. We had to ask for the complimentary mini-bar to be stocked - it was stocked once during our time there (3 small bottles of water and 5 small bottles of sickly Jamaican pop between 4 people for a 2 week stay). There was no hot water, the power kept tripping out, the key-cards wouldn't work, and the kid's bunk bed was on the brink of collapsing each time one of them turned over in the night!

The hotel shop was small and rip-off prices....I bought some decongestant tablets (2 for $2!) - they had an expiry date on the packets of March 2008! The staff were ignorant....plus they never had any change so we ended up walking away with them owing US money each time!

The food in the buffet was decidedly average and often cold. ...you could get a table but obtaining cuttlery, glasses, cups etc to enable you to indulge in a meal was like pulling teeth, waving $$ bills to encourage the waiting staff to actually wait on the table worked, but only sometimes. They were poorly trained, painfully slow and sometimes downright rude. One night we asked 3 different people for a glass of wine......it eventually arrived as we were getting up to leave the table! The choice of food for children was also very poor......my son lived for much of the fortnight on French Fries and bread. He'd have eaten bananas had there been any!

Considering we were in the tropics, the fruit selection on offer was very poor......melon, or perhaps melon, if you were really lucky, melon and pineapple.....oh, and once we actually saw bananas but they disappeared so quickly that you'd have thought there was a shortage (there clearly was here!).

There was nothing for the kids to do at night apart from the games arcade, they charge for everything......machines, pool tables, air hockey, etc. My children actually had money taken from them by a bunch of other kids. There should have been a member of staff in the arcade area but she kept disappearing.

The entertainment was painfully loud and there was no escape from it.

The pool nearest the beach was filthy. The water was almost yellow and you couldn't see the bottom. It was littered with plastic cups, straws, cigarette buts, scum, and heavens knows what else. The filtration system had broken down but they insisted on keeping it open for use despite the fact that there were 3 other pools which were actually quite clean.

The main beach was littered with rubbish and broken glass. They cleaned it occasionally but not nearly enough..... using plastic grass rakes and a trolley. The beach nearest the childrens play area was a health hazard and stank...I have photos, .....it was scattered with rotting seaweed, all manner of litter and bits of wood with rusty nails sticking out - a British hotel would be shut down for less!

I couldn't believe how stupid and irresponsible the watersports guys were on their jet-skis....cutting in close to the bathers and doing tricks next to where people were paddling kyacks! They are an accident waiting to happen!

All in all, this is a facility which is in dire need of a management shake-up and long overdue for a refurb. How the travel companies can rate it as a 3-4* property is beyond me - its 2* at most!

Jamaica has better resorts to offer.....stay away from this one!

The hotel may not be the most plush, but when it comes to the entertainment and circus, nothing beats it! the kids love it, i love it, we're hooked! In the process of booking our tenth stay!

Where do i start, first time to jamaica the weather was fantastic it rained a couple of times but cleared up within minutes so that was no problem at all. The Starfish Trelawny was very clean maids came in every day with clean sheets and towels the grounds was cleaned daily along with the four swimming pools the whole place is spottless. The food was very nice always a good choice on offer i was a bit worrid about the food because i like my proper english cooked foods, but i had no need to worry as everyday there was something i liked. The beach was beautiful with its own little island and plenty of beds to go around so dont worry about having to get up early to get one the beach is cleaned every morning at 6am by one young man, Yes, ONE young man, with a small rake he'd clean up all the seaweed, bless him, the staff do work really hard around the clock. Entertainment was by the pool near the beach during the day, i cant really comment on it because i did'nt watch it, entertainment on the night was good the dancers were fantastic and the beach partys were great fun. My hubby and me got a taxi and went into falmouth it was an experience to see how the jamaicans live the driver waited for us and on the way home he showed us a little place called The Time and Place where we could get a lobster to eat. We did the dolphin swim $235. US. each kids pay same, worth every penny we paid $70. US about £35 for the dvd of our swim, and the Dunn's River Cruise $95. US each kids was $75.US it was cruise ship stopping off for some snorkeling on the way then onto Ocho Rios to the Dunn's River Falls it was magnificent then back on the cruise ship to party with as much rum as you can drink a great day out. all in all a fantastic, clean, relaxing or action packed holiday as you wish, did i mention my 10yr old son ? we did'nt see much of him as he met friends and had lunches with them ect. we felt he was safe. My Tips are Dont take beach towels they are provided, Do take your own flask for your drinks they dont mind filling them up for you and the flask will keep your drink cool, Do take american dollas a young couple took jamaican and found it hard to price things as everything was priced in US, and Dont forget you need to pay $18 american dollas EACH to leave jamaica dont get caught out like a few holiday makers did on the bus back to the airport on way home caused them a bit of a worry. have a great hol, like we did, would we return?
