The delightfull village of Maria Alm,lays at the very bottom of the spectacular Hochkonig mountains,and is a great pleasure for the many walkers who wish to enjoy the wonderful surroundings and setting, it has extremely impressive views to the north over the limestone peaks of Steinerness Meer and the waves of the Grasberge mountains that face the south.Maria Alm is in the province of Salzburgerland and very the welcoming locals are extremely pleased with the tradition and charm that steers them through the the many festivals and customs that take place through the summer months,and september boasts a special Harvest festival.
This area is a joy for all the keen walkers,with 2-3 day self guided walking tour via Alpina ,the strollers can enjoy picturesque strolls through the meadows and woodlands ,or take a gentle evening walk to the gothic church of Gerling,along the valley.The ramblers amongst you will like to make the most of the huge selection of hikes to the cosy mountain huts and spectacular viewing points of the Hochkonig,using the ever popular Schwarzeckalm chairlift or Dorf Jet gondola.However for the more challenged hikers ,there are extended hikes in the Steinernes Meer, or an imposing 5 hour return walk from the top of the Schwarzeckalm at a staggering 1450m in height to the Grasberg Europas at 2113m high.These options are all a certainty to provide jaw dropping views over the Grossglockner and beyond.
Means of transport in Maria Alm can be found using the two mountain lifts or the Dorf Jet gondola,which operates wednesdays and sundays.(Please be aware days are subject to change). Yoc could also purchase locally the Wanderwutzel card which will give you unlimited use in the summer of the two lifts.
The activities here are endless and can be enjoyed by the whole family ,and include bowling, an archery trail, horseriding, tobogganing in Saalfelden, or mountain biking.There is also a 18hole minigolf course and the impressive mountain views of Steinernes Meer can be seen from the Urslautal golf course.Days out can be enjoyed at the animal park at Jufenalm golf, or a fun packed day at the Sommerstein Adventure Park,which has a currant canal, 40m waterslide , playarea, tennis courts, or relax in the whilrpool and massage jets. But if its walking thats your thing then this is the place to be with 15 nordic walking trails and 11hiking paths at the Active Fitness Park.

The general facilites in Maria Alm are fantastic to with a Post Office, Doctor & Chemist , Bank and a excellent selection of Bars ,Cafes and Restaurants to wine and dine in,you' ll be spoilt for choice.
If you enjoy taking in all the sights and are keen to see more there are some sightseeing excursions which can be booked locally,some suggestions are the Krimml Waterfalls , Salzburg or Berchtesgaden.There are reduced children prices up to and including the age of 12years.
