Cyprus is a place of hidden beaity, stunning sights and enthralling mystery. The Troodos mountains of Cyprus provide a breathtaking landscape, with priceless cultural treasure, sleepy but beautiful villages and a feeling that this unique place has remained untouched. Located near the National park, is the town of Platres, and is where you will find lush botanical gardens and the famous Mount Olympus. The wow factor for this area comes from the stunning sight of bright green Pines and tall Cedars, which dominates an area almost 2000 metres above sea level. This rich array of countryside and nature makes it an ideal destination for cycling and walking. And after your hike, just relax and soak in the atmosphere of the local villages and maybe even sample some local produce, wine honey and cheese being famous in these parts.
Our opinion:
Excellent and varied walking destination, where gentle and challenging paths can be found from the Troodos Mountains. The mountains mean that the climate is mild, and thus will suit everyone. It perfectly combines fascinating and unique culture, with breathtaking natural scenery.Although you can find plenty to do, Platres is an excellent choice for people wanting to do very little, and escape the crowdy coasts.

Car hire is an excellent and affordable way to get around, and fully take in the beauty of the Troodos Mountains. We have included this cost within the price of your holiday. It is easy to explore this stunning Island, and search for unique awe-inspiring views, and hiring a car will allow you to do so at your own pace. You will find it easy as road signs are in English as well as Greek.
Strollers:
Perfect for walkers, there are many gentle paths that weave through the forests and take you to the outskirts of Platres. This will allow you to discover natural gems of beauty yourself, and at your own pace, allowing you to relax into the calm pace of life around here.
Ramblers:
For those more adventurous walkers there is plenty for you too, with many marked trails that corss the valley sides. These will allow you to emmerce yourself in local history too, as many paths were once old cart trails, and pass through areas of significant beauty and interest. There is even a trail which passes through the ruins of 16th Century fortifications, called the Altemis Trail.
Hikers:
The scenery and environment is ideal for hiking, with 800 year old trees, forests and old springs marking the way. We highly recommend the hike through the Kalidonia area to the waterfalls, or to the sumit of Mount Olympus. Not to be missed!
Sightseeing:
The island is seeped in Greek and Roman history, at every point you turn. A theatre in Limassol has been lovingly restored, and holds host to many drama and music performances. For the romantics among you, be sure to visit Aphrodite's Rock for the chance of eternal youth! Paphos is a must on your list of destinations to sightsee, being home to the catacombs of Solomon, Tomb of the kings and the stunning House of Dionysos. Of course all off these are completed by breathtaking views of the blue sea.
