Peralada is a town in the Ampurdan region of Northern Catalonia with a uniquely rich culture and history, with interesting natural resorces. The medieval Castillo de Peralada has a magnificent facade, and some great neo-gothic elements. It was built by the Viscounts of Rocaberti, who were historically elevated to the status of Counts in 1599. The familiy name of the Counts of Rocaberti are even mentioned in Don Quixote as being one of the oldest, greatest lineages in all of Catalonia.
