Returned from Hotel Bavaro Princess 3 days ago - April 17/09. Things went reasonably well until last day. Only real concern up to then was the mosquitoes - in the evenings outdoors and on occasion at night in the room. On the last day, check-out was noon and as our flight was not leaving until 6.00 P.M., we were in the position of leaving our luggage in the supposedly locked, secure luggage room. Bell hop took us through two locked doors; however, when we went to retrieve our carry-on bags and back pack, someone had gone through my back pack and relieved me of $130 Cdn and $20 U.S. - Spoke individually to Reception, Guest Sevices, Bell Services and Signature Rep. within ten minutes and they all gave me the same line "it could have been another guest," in spite of the fact that no guest is allowed in the luggage room without a bell hop with a key. Sounded like an often used 'party line.' No recourse. The money is not my main concern. Tourism is 20 to 30% of the country's economy. Theft will not help this industry. Signature needs to negotiate around these issues.
