"safe haven in luxor" - 4 Stars for Iberotel Luxor in Luxor, Egypt

The Iberotel in Luxor is an exellent base to see the sights of Luxor. It has a fantastic location on the banks of the Nile, with a very pretty garden leading down to the river. Although not as grand as some of the Luxor hotels it offers very good service in all areas of the hotel. The rooms are well equiped and the nile/west bank view has got to be one of the best available.Staff do not push for tips and are for the most part (85%) very efficient and obliging. It is clearly a hotel with an interest in maintaining high standards(the general manager is a nice guy who clearly takes time to ensure the best service and support for guests) and many other staff follow his example. We stayed for 2 weeks on an all inclusive basis and were very satisfied with the value for money this provided. It has to be said that the meals in the restaurant were a little lacking, but we were always able to find something from the choices available.Day time snacks were very good, I would recommend having lunch in the bar, which although not large, was a haven from the heat, and served exellent drinks,(the beer and soft drinks were in cans this can really be a bonus as mixer drinks from the tap in Egypt are pretty awful !). Room service was good and i was impressed with the laundry service. the pool area which floats on the Nile was of a good size and fresh towells and sunbeds were always available. Due to the proximity to the Nile there was an occasional problem with petrol fumes from nearby boats, but this has to be accepted with a working river. We ate in both of the A la carte restaurants, Italian and Chinese, both being of a good quality.l

Ian Foster wrote, "The Sofitel karnik is without doubt the most beautiful setting imaginable. Set at the side of the Nile in beautiful gardens with a terrace and heated swimming pool to match.
Outside the hotel is a different matter. Luxor is the dirtiest city I have ever visited. As soon as you set foot outside you will be accosted with people after money, children and adults alike, either to go in their..."

Andrea Williams wrote, "I visited this hotel by myself, and found the staff very friendly and helpful.
I was only on b&b, but the snack bar in the lobby was great, and as the temperature was in the high 40s, I was thirsty more than hungry. (room service was great, and cheap too)
The pool is only small, but big enough to keep cool in. Snacks and drinks by the pool very handy.
Great location right by the temple..."
