"Back 4 more" - 3 Stars for Oasis Hotel in Agadir, Morocco

Anonymous wrote, "
Holiday Review

Stayed here last year , end of Jan also. The hotel is in a great location and the staff are very helpful. It's cheap and cheerful as a resort and the weather is as good as it gets for winter sun. Agadir is not sure what it wants to be. Some of the buildings are either "going up or being pulled down" / refurbished ! It's hard to tell. The newly built Marina and surrounding areas are in conflict with each other, regarding "chique or shreik" . The people are helpful and friendly but this is a sun holiday in Januaryand not much else , not to be confused with the Playa's or Costa's , Agadir is a work in progress and has some way to go reach the over commercialised hights of Espania or the like. There's no Hi-Fi / alcohol - cigarette / supermarkado type outlet shopping and T-Shirts or Towels along with hand crafts and Arabic garb are the limited retail experience. French is the main language but English/ Dutch/ Aradic/ German/ Spanish etc are widely understood by the "locals" .This is a safe city but not high on the list for Children or Single/Teenage girls type party weekends !

Quality

The Atlas mountains / waterfall 1/2 day coach tour was a long day for ALL, but short on quality and without the waterfall ! Crossing the road is a hit and miss affair , Quad's/car hire and driving are for the mentally unstable and best avoided. Taxi's are dirt cheap and public bus's are gastly wrecks compared to any European standard. Mangy mal-nourished cats roam freely through restaurants and cafe's and don't pose a problem for the locals but not a pleasent dining experience overall !

Service

The people are friendly and helpful, hotel and commercial retail staff are excellent but most of the lower end of the retail chain are usually looking for a soft touch and a hand out. Bargaining is the order of the day except for the few "fixed price" outlets. Quality restaurants are not much dearer than the tired main street cafe's and eateries and a better bet for Menu descriptive accuracy ???

Location

Oasis Hotel was in a great location , close to the beach and up-coming Marina complex. Other hotels offer higher *'s but are best described as all inclusive and with little or no need to leave the Hotel complex itself. The foothpaths are generally an obstical course and not for the unsure of foot amongst you and some climbing is required to access shopping/ beach areas etc.

Food

Not the European / Spanish / Enghish norm !
Spleen/ Camel/ Veal cheeks / "mixed meats" are on offer etc, ... Fish is a safe bet and excellent value overall as is the dining experience.

Entertainment

Mainstream up market Hotels are the best bet this time of year. Local singing/entertainment is best left to the locals and X factor finalists won't be treatened from this ethnic group."

John Klejna wrote, "My 7 day holiday to Agadir was booked independently as single travellers get a very poor deal through travel agents or other tour operators. The flight over the Atlas Mountains was very exciting as they seemed to roll on for ever.

"Quality Weather in January" - 2 Stars for Oasis Hotel in Agadir, Morocco

Ciaran Dunne wrote, "Stayed in the Hotel Oasis on a H/B basis mid January 2008. The bus transfer is about 35 minutes from airport. Arrived late in the night so, didn't see the locality untill the next bright and sunny morning. The breakfast is a continental type buffet and basic, but the do have pancakes/ omeletts /fried eggs as a hot option cooked in front of you. The location is good and just a short 3-5 minute walk to the spotlessly clean cresent shaped beach . There's a newly built and mostly unfinished marina at one end of the beach and will be impressive when it's up and running.
This is a 'different' type holiday as you'll find out crossing the roads! The petite taxi's are usually very old but cheap, £2 for the majority of daytime trips and usually £3 after dark. This time of year suits the more mature client and not the young and lively. There is no dress code in the tourist areas. Eating out is good value and reasonable, unfortunately it's usally chips with a main course. The markets are everything you've probably already heard.Haggling is the order of the day but be firm in your responce to unwanted advances and finally as a 'tip', the hotel staff are very polite and everybody else is looking for a soft touch."
